Blends and Alloys of Engineering Thermoplastics
By H.T. van de Grampel, General Electric Plastics BVDemands on plastics materials continue to advance, and blending two or more materials can produce a product with the best properties of all the constituent parts. Blending also enables materials producers to produce tailor-made products for specific applications, with substantially less investment than the development of entirely new materials.
This Review Report explains the theory of blending materials which may be essentially incompatible, and the importance of morphology to physical properties. The properties and applications of commercially available blends of engineering thermoplastics are then described.
Further experimental results and data on commercial materials can be obtained from the accompanying References and Abstracts section, which contains some 499 abstracts from international literature selected from the Polymer Library.
