German, Greenoak AssociatesThis report considers the implications of the trends within the industry for the rubber component industry: mergers and associations, expansion of the platform approach, model globalisation. The major emphasis of this report is on the Western European automotive and rubber component supply industries. However, since much of the business is now global, the whole world has to be considered and some data is therefore included for other sectors such as the Americas, Japan, the Far East and other territories.
Of growing importance, especially in Europe, is the fate of a vehicle after the end of its useful life. In the European Union the matter is coming to a head with the impending Directive on End of Life Vehicles, which will impose high targets for recycling for cars. Pressure will be placed on all manufacturers to produce recyclable components. The implications for the non-tyre rubber component industry are considered.
