A broad range of bulk thermoplastic materials were studied by monitoring real processing situations (both moulding and extrusion). Materials studied included PVC, nylon 6, ABS, HIPS, LDPE and HDPE. Emissions collected during standard processing and purging operations were analysed by thermal desorption gas chromatography-mass spectrometry.
